The Public Votes Again

Gallery on the Square presented 22 pieces of work in a square format in a variety of media: acrylic, watercolors, pen & ink, oils, colored pencils, wood burning, glass, string & fabric.

This first annual  “Square on the Square” event voted on by the public was won by Yah’El Rogers, a talented fifteen year-old teen from Lebanon.   The prize was a hundred dollar cash award plus a whole month in 2027 of having their work displayed and for sale in a front window area of the Gallery.

Talking to Yah’El, she said, “I was inspired by my Dad at a very young age.  He showed me some tips on how to draw and use dimensions with shapes.  I am a self-taught artist, but I study many different artists online and their techniques.  I love using dramatic color to give the painting feeling and depth.”

She said that her favorite hobbies are outside activities:  sports, fishing, treasure hunting, and “I also love singing and dancing with my family.”  She added that she also loves her cat Naomi, and drinking coffee.

Although definitely into the arts, her favorite school subject is math.  She concluded stating:

“Creating art will always be a part of my life, but when I think of a future career, I have many hopes and dreams.  I am not sure what one I will finally pursue.”
